KBShimmer Beach Please and Shore Thing from the 6th Anniversary Collection

So my dear readers! Since quite a bunch of stuff has accumulated on my kitchen/polish table I have to leave safe boundaries and show you more than one polish per post - at least today.

I am sure most of you have seen the threesome pretties by KBShimmer created for their 6th Anniversary. I have picked the two creams for me - Beach Please the boldest blue leaning pink before edging into neon-magenta territory and Shore Thing a "short of neon" turquoise which reminds me strongly, very strongly indeed, of Illamasqua Nomad (I have given this one on to a friend who was craving for it so unfortunately I cannot show comparisons). Let's get down to polish business:

I applied two coats of KBShimmer Beach Please over my regular Base Coat which currently is Nail Pattern Boldness Digital Hydration (a ridge filler). I found the formula a smidgen thin and I had to be wary to not flod my nailbeds but carefully wiping off the brush at the rim of the bottle sorted all out. The first coat turned out quite sheer and even streaky due to the aforementioned but the second coat which I dared to apply medium thick, provided the opacity I love to see on my nails with such bold colors. Dry time clearly is on the fast side and I definitely would recommend to spruce up the shine with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

isn't this just glowing like neon?

I also applied two coats of KBShimmer Shore Thing again over my regular ridge filling Base Coat. Same story as for Beach Please. And with this one I had an amazing experience: I managed to get my thumb really dented not a big dent but it was deep and it was already past 10 pm and I was in no mood whatsover to restart business with my thumb. I did some soft pushing and shoving and could actually close the dent, slapped on another coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top and now look at that: no traces left of that dent that once sat square in the middle of my nail - how amazing is THAT? In my humble opinion this speaks of true quality and excellent performance of both the nailpolish AND the Top Coat.

Since I wear my polishes hardly ever for more than a day, I cannot give you an account on longevity but after a full day of wear at the office of both, Beach Please and Shore Thing I could not detect a single nail with tip wear much less a chip or any other signs of wear, I guess once more both of these are big thumbs up for looking gorgeous for a couple of days.

I ordered KBShimmer Beach Please and Shore Thing from Harlow & Co.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!

KBShimmer Low And Be Bold: #supergorgeousblog theme Nails of the Day

Today is the last day of the June #supergorgeousblog challenge on Instagram and the theme is exactly down my lane: NAILS OF THE DAY!!! Of course I did not intend lacking any efforts to come forward with a gorgeous NOTD.

As hard as I tried but there was no way I got around KBShimmer Low And Be Bold from KBShimmer's early summer collection. I am sure most of you have seen plenty of pictures and read plenty of praises over this beauty. Therefore I keep it short and sweet: it is all true. Low And Be Bold is a somewhat darker royal blue crelly with the formula of a jelly. I was longing for a Skittelette and leafing through my inspiration folder, I came across a gorgeous skittle mani by Leslie from Work Play Polish. Now she shows nail art that is in heights I might hopefully reach in about 60 years or so. But luckily, she had one nail done with a dotticure that seemed doable for my humble level (note: the shiny line along my middle and index tips are not my nails but a reflection - yes, it is that shiny):

Pinkie: two coats of Picture Polish Chillax
Ring: three coats of Picture Polish Sky dotted with KBShimmer Low And Be Bold and Picture Polish Chillax
all others: two coats KBShimmer Low And Be Bold

Soooooo, I pondered some on what to say about KBShimmer Low And Be Bold. I personally favor short and concise summaries - let's try this: It has the consistency of a jelly, the behavior of a cream and the look of a crelly. IMO this covering everything and yes, it is totally worth getting, no matter how many siblings your collection might already hold, I promise this is a unique experience!!!!

Final thoughts: KBShimmer Low And Be Bold is blue perfection, now let me head over to Harlow & Co and ogle some more of those KBShimmer creams, so far each and every single one I bought is a win in my books.

I ordered KBShimmer Low And Be Bold with Harlow & Co.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for stopping by!!!

Stamp Camp - KBShimmer Chick Me Out

Anybody missed me? Well, I am considerate and save you from the need to reply ;-)! At least my absence is not due to any crisis - it is just that my social life accelerated over the last couple of weeks (oh my, I will not survive this summer at this pace) and there wasn't the time of the day to type up posts. I did have the time to play with nailpolish though and have dutifully practiced my stamping skills.

For those of my readers following me on Instagram: yes guys, you are right, you saw this there already as I did this mani for the #supergorgeousblog challenge of June.

I really don't know what alien force took power over me when I decided to order KBShimmer Chick Me Out - don't get me wrong, there isn't anything wrong with this polish, I just don't wear yellow in any form, so why would I need not just A bottle but ANOTHER bottle of yellow nailpolish? I fear that can only be explained by having suffered from an unexpected attack of  NPAS (Nail Polish Addict Syndrome). Anhoo here it is and since I am NOT going to wear it as mani again (you have no idea the amount of jokes I had to endure) KBShimmer Chick Me Out is the perfect canvas for some summery stamping.

I applied three coats of KBShimmer Chick Me Out over my regular Base Coat. Well, I hear you, I think I am the only Blogger out there who went for three coats but how you get away with two coats is a mystery to me. My ridged nails (Ridge Filling Base Coat doesn't flatten the surface to that extent) just wouldn't let me get away with two coats of ANY yellow polish. That being said, the formula of Chick Me Out is the best I have come across in a yellow so far. Which is not saying too much as I own three bottles of yellow nailpolish, not fit for a judgement, eh?

And this is the stamping image I used - MoYou Pro Collection XL 14

I ordered KBShimmer Chick Me Out with Harlow & Co, MoYou Pro Collection XL 14 can be purchased with MoYou site or with Pshiiit Boutique.

I look forward to reading your thoughts - thanks for visiting!!!

My picks for Spring 2014: KBShimmer A Touch of Glass

And on we go with my picks for Spring 2014 - KBShimmer released a massive collection of 16 polishes in total - consider me awed!!! After I overcame the first gushing and awing I was really, really, REALLY good - I got myself "only" five creams - thus resulting in the most economical polish/shipping rate ratio (see I saved money by ordering more polish). The most spring like color to me is A Touch of Glass, in my humble view a soft turquoise rather than a blue leaning mint. In some reviews of this collection I read that A Touch of Glass could apply a bit streaky and patchy and might need three coats. Think ridged nails and you can multiply streaks and patches and add some pools to it as well. But I found a way to circumvent about 99 % of the above - how? Please see my paragraph about the application but first some photos:

I applied two coats of KBShimmer A Touch of Glass over Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat and one layer of Glisten&Glow HK Girl. There - this is my latest trick to cover those ridges. This might not be a totally unique technique but had the impact of a nailpolish-epiphany on me. The smooth, glossy surface of the nail after applying the Top Coat provides the perfect canvas to paint your nails easily and effortlessly. So while the formula of a Touch of Glass is a tad sheer, already the first coat went on smooth and even and the second coat provided even opacity and a high shine finish.

Are you ready for A (sparked up) Touch of Glass?

I dabbed on KBShimmer Pastel Me More. This is a very dense clear based glitter throwing sparks from square glitters in all pastel shades - well this might be a tad overload, especially in the sun, but then I did felt sparkly that day ;-)

Final thoughts: KBShimmer A Touch of Glass is absolutely adorable. I love the squishiness and the freshness of this light turquoise - a perfect shade to be worn on its own or as base for delicate or bold decor.

I order my KBShimmer polishes with Harlow & Co.

Thank you for visiting - oh and I look forward to reading your comments and thoughts!!!

Comparison: KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination and Ozotic 504

I intercept my spring picks to post this comparison - there were no less than three reasons that triggered this post:
  • I bought this super matte (and super dry) lipstick by MAC from its LE Proenza Schouler Collection. The case of the lipstick is insanely multichrome and triggered vague memories of an untried KBShimmer Multichrome.

  • One of my favorite Blogs - Will Paint Nails For Food link here - started a great initiative last weekend, the nail talk. The first topic was Multi Chromes. I think this is a great initiative and I really enjoyed following all the comments and views (O-M-G - nailpolish talk on Forum level, I cannot believe this) and it brought me to ogle my bottles again.
  • I had planned to post a comparison between KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination and Ozotic 504 like at least for eons.
So if you look at the two of them in the bottles you literally could think it is the same soup filled into different bottles. But let's not jump at conclusions half way through this post, righty?

Those of you who read my Blog regularly might have come across the one or the other rambling of mine about NOT layering multi- or duochromes over black but trying different roads. For this comparison I decided to layer both of the contestents over Opi Eurso Euro, a true blurple cream released in last year's spring collection. I applied one medium thick coat of Opi Eurso Euro on all nails and applied two thin coats of KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination on my ring and index.

I thought you might want to see what the base looks when not only put under but also  put next to the Multi Chrome (which would be KBShimmer Pigment my Imaginaton in this picture). I find it sort of creates a nice "fond" of a component of Pigment my Imagination to provide a saturated though not overly prominent canvas for the multichromes to play on.

under water

And here you see them now nail next to nail - pinkie and middle: Ozotic 504, ring and index: KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination. I applied two coats of both Pigment My Imagination and Ozotic 504 over Opi Eurso Euro.

Formula and application wise I have to admit I prefer KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination. It is not as runny and thin, not as prone to brushstrokes (and the Ozotic 504 is already pretty good at this), is more pigmented and has those pigments finer milled. Dry time is remarkably quicker with the KBShimmer.

(Lenghty) Final thoughts: Let's get this out of the way pronto - to any untrained and many polish-educated eyes KBShimmer Pigment my Imangination and Ozotic 504 look identical. Frankly, I had to nearly heft my eyeball to my nails to observe minor differences (like the finer milled pigments). I even did the ultimate test and walked the planet with the above shown "mani" - not a single soul had the faintest idea, that I am wearing different nailpolishes (I described the miniscule differences I observed in the paragraph above). Bright side: Ozotic 504 will disappear from the surface of earth anytime soon or has already disappeared along with the whole brand (there is certainly more than one Ozotic polish that will be remembered wagging our heads knowingly) Rescue for multi chromes is near, for example KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination is not an exact but even better replica of the original. The finely milled pigments that give it such a unique consistency and the quick drying time are strong arguments to get over any feel of loss sooner than later. Down side: I spent some bucks on something I already owned instead of looking for something more unique.

Note: I know that there are at least two more comparable multi chromes out there - one by ILNP - Cygnus Loop from what I can judge seeing pictures - the other being Dance Legend (probably No 93 Celia) - I own none of them as there is a limit as to how many identical polishes I want to hoard.

Overall: I do miss versatility in multichromes - they always seem to range in the same purple/blue/green area with rare flares into brownish bases like for example Picture Polish Solar or Dance Legend Boo or the even pink leaning Dance Legend Boo. But save us from more Peridot dupes - PLEASE!!! What I could envision would be something with a garnet base, shifting to anything plum/purple or even dark purple for example?

I cannot remember where I got Ozotic 504 from (this soon will be a futile information anyhow). I ordered KBShimmer Pigment my Imagination with Harlow & Co.

What are your thoughts about multi chromes?

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for stopping by!!!

Polished Marvels Review of 2013 Part II - Indie Brands

On to Part II of the review of my nail polish year 2013 (Part I you can see here). Today's post is all about Indie Brands. Over the course of this year, I gradually started to buy more and more Indies and less and less polishes from the fab four (Opi, Essie, China Glaze, Zoya) or Drug Store brands. My favorites crystalized throughout the year as I found myself being on the tip of my toes for their restocks and launches. Again, I listed them in alphabetical order, I honestly cannot decide on one brand as my favorite - picking one leaves me with regret for others. OK so here are my favorite Indie Brands of 2013:

Cirque - the New York based Indie Brand that just recently had the nail polish world at awe with their Alchemy Collection.

Cirque Coronation original post

Next up Crows Toes - for me this is the punkiest of all Indies, edgy, unexpected - it reminds of the spirit of the Japanese Designers in Paris like Yamamoto. The polishes of Crows Toes are not within any trend boundaries, yet they are always avantgarde and spot on. Crows Toes fans are also called Minions so you may take an educated guess which of their gems I am showing you here:

 Crows Toes Minion original post

Isn't it funny that mostly the name of a polish made me start buying Elevation Polish which morphed into one of my most favorite and most worn brands? Since I am Swiss, living in Switzerland, you surely have an inkling which polish I choose to represent Elevation Polish here:

Elevation Polish Jungfrau original post

I bet none of you are surprised to see Australian based Emily de Molly here listed as well, among the spectacular polishes released this year is the Force-trio holding circular glitters: Cosmic Force, Oceanic Force, Dark Force but what really made me hold my breath is the range of holos.

Emily de Molly Indigo Flow original post

KBShimmer is what I would call THE Indie Polish starter brand: versatile glitters, shimmers and as of late also multi chromes with excellent formula at affordable prices. You can be sure that each collection holds something for everyone from neutral to statement creations. This year I liked their shimmers best:

KBShimmer Teal Another Tail original post

My dear Blogger friend Melissa from Lacquer Reverie is called to responsibility for my excitement about Pahlish. After the first shy dip into the range of Pahlish polishes I quickly turned into a loyal fan for their small sized glitters, monthly Duos, jelly glitters and as of late holos. Now the polish I show here was not released this year but founded my collection of Pahlish polishes after having seen this on Melissa's nails:

Pahlish Continually Smoldering original post

Let's talk formula: all of the above Indie brands developed sort of a signature character also formula wise which are overall excellent. We are used to sometimes thicker consistencies with glitter (dabbing it on the nail is the way to go there), or thin (just slap on another coat) or longer dry times (well the only thing helping here is time). But the overall similarities are that they are easy to apply and frankly, often show better results than polishes from main stream brands (which is still a mystery to me - hand mixed polishes show consistent performance and those biggies manage again and again to throw streaky, runny or gluey polishes at their customers?)

I am sure my regular readers of my blog are not surprised by my list of favorite Indie Brands - they popped up all over the year at Polished Marvels ;-) - stay tuned for the third part of my review of 2013, favorite nail polishes of 2013…

Thanks for dropping by - I am happy to read your comments!!!

Comparison week: KBShimmer Myth You Lots vs Enchanted Polish Octopus's Garden

If you read this on 14 November it means that I had enough sunshine to do another comparison with one of my new KBShimmers ;-)!!! Again, already the pictures of bottles of Myth You Lots reminded me of another gorgeous Enchanted Polish: Octopus's Garden (probably my favorite EP).

Pinkie: three coats of Enchanted Polish Octopus's Garden on its own
Ring: three coats of Myth You Lots on its own
Middle: one coat of Enchanted Polish Octopus's Garden over one coat of Cult Nails Nevermore (black cream)
Index: one coat of Myth You Lots over one coat of Nevermore.

Color: Myth You Lots is less pigmented and the purple base color is no as prominent as with Octopus's Garden. But otherwise the colors seem to me identical.
Holo: Myth You Lots clearly has a stronger holo
Multichrome: Due to the sheerness of Myth You Lots the multi chrome effect works better with Octopus's Garden
Formula: Myth You Lots and Octopus's Garden both have a thin formula and Myth You Lots is even sheerer than Octopus's Garden. Application is equally easy and flawless for both of them as dry time with both is about the same.
Costs: Myth You Lots costs CAD 9.25, Octopus's Garden USD 15.00
Availability: Myth You Lots is available with Harlow & Co., Octopus's Garden currently is sold out wherever I checked. Please follow Enchanted Polish for any restock information or for example Pshiiit Boutique.

the weather was horrible when I took those pictures and no matter what I tried, the water bowl shot would not work out - therefore a simple outdoor picture

Verdict:
The similarity between Myth You Lots and Octopus's Garden is even stronger than between Pretty in Punk and Hey Jude. I have to admit, I am smitten by the quality and the beauty of the KBShimmer multi-chrome holos!! And while I love Enchanted Polish dearly, I cannot get my mind set to hunting them down around the globe and rather reach for KBShimmer Myth You Lots. Also I do like the strong holo effect and the multi chrome color shifts.

Last but not least a picture of my Cinderella hand - I wear two coats of Myth You Lots over Cult Nails Nevermore:

And - what are your thoughts for those two pals? - I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for dropping by!!!

Comparison week: KBShimmer Pretty in Punk vs Enchanted Polish Hey Jude

I wonder if any of you considered comparing these two yet? The second I saw the first bottle shots of Pretty in Punk I know I had to have it for the sole reason as it seemed to look similar to my beloved Hey Jude.

Pinkie: three coats of Enchanted Polish Hey Jude on its own
Ring: three coats of KBShimmer Pretty in Punk on its own
Middle: one coat of Enchanted Polish Hey Jude over one coat of Cult Nails Nevermore (black cream)
Index: one coat of KBShimmer Pretty in Punk also over one coat of Nevermore

Color: Pretty in Punk looks paler and more leaning toward silver than Hey Jude. Next to each other Hey Jude seems to have a nearly golden tinge. Also Pretty in Punk has a less vivid bright green base than Hey Jude
Holo: Pretty in Punk has a really nice holo rainbow visible in any light. Hey Jude is a slight bit less holographic.
Multi-chrome: Both of them shift from green to silvery-grey to pink (worn on its own) or purple (worn over black)
Formula: Pretty in Punk is even sheerer than Hey Jude, however both of them achieve opacity at three coats when worn on its own. Due to the sheerer formula of Pretty in Punk you have more options to play with effects when layering over a darker base depending on how strong you would like to have the green color visible.
Costs: Pretty in Punk CAD 9.25, Enchanted Polish Hey Jude USD 15.00
Availability: Pretty in Punk is still available with Harlow & Co, Hey Jude is currently sold out with Enchanted Polish and Pshiiit Boutique.

Of course I have a water bowl picture for you:

Verdict: while not totally identical, I find Pretty in Punk a perfect alternative to the ever harder to get Enchanted Polish Hey Jude and I like to have the choice for a more subtle or bold version when worn over black or any other darker base.

I purchased KBShimmer Pretty in Punk with Harlow & Co. Enchanted Polish Hey Jude is currently sold out but you could enlist for restock information with Pshiiit Boutique or subscribe to Enchanted Polish's Newsletter.

What do you think - is Pretty in Punk a good alternative for Hey Jude?

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!

Skittles for Essie - A Tribute

Earlier this week Essie from i Heart Pretty Polished announced in her unique warmhearted and authentic way that she will take a break from blogging. I was extremely touched by her frank post describing her concerns and thoughts she felt over the last couple of months. This post has triggered a spontaneous idea among some of us to do an Essie Skittle for her Tribute today. This is our nail polish bloggers way to say "thank you Essie" for having inspired us for the last one and a half years with your posts, comments and suggestions. For my part all I can say is that you have helped me fundamentally to shape my Blog and the way I post, not to mention the polishes that ended up in my stash based on your reviews. So I am very proud to be part of the Tribute post group and this is what I tried to re-create:

From left: Butter London Fruit Machine, KBShimmer Hexappeal, Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle

Anyone following Essie's Blog already an idea where this might lead to? Well let's look:

Recipe:
Pinkie and index: two coats of Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle
Ring: two coat of KBShimmer Hexappeal over one coat of Zoya Song
Middle and thumb: three coats of Butter London Fruit Machine

I took this picture from Essie's Blog (Essie, I hope you don't mind) and here is the link to Essie's original post of this skittle.

picture taken and owned by Essie, i Heart Pretty Polish

Yesterday I was attending a wedding (the first since ages - yep, I am not moving in a circle of marriage oriented folks). It was a beautiful ceremony at an awesome historic location in the surrounding of Basel:

Reithalle of Wenkenhof, Riehen

Of course I am not allowed to post any pictures of the bride and groom or the party but I assure you, they looked strikingly beautiful, the party was multi-cultural and the Prosecco delicious. The location, the Reithalle of Wenkenhof, are stables and riding hall of a historic manor in Riehen (close by Basel). And I proudly can say "MY MANI GOT PHOTOGRAPHED"!!!!!!!

Now I ask my dear readers to take the time and have a look at the posts of the other Essie Tribute Skittles:

Thank you ladies for this awesome spontaneous joint project - THIS is it what blogging makes such a unique experience - you really ROCK!!!

The last paragraph is for Essie: my dear friend, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you through this post for all your inspiration and advice you blessed me with since I got to know you about a year ago. I thank you for your friendship and support through the darkest weeks of my life and feel incredibly happy to know that our friendship will last (I am sure of that). While I certainly will miss your authentic and unique posts, I so very much understand your feelings and concerns and have immense respect for your courageous decision to step out and take the time and contemplation to explain your reasoning to your readers. Thank you <3!!!! - See ya round :-)

Christine

My NOTD's of the week Part 1

Once more I split my NOTD's of the week in two parts - you will shortly understand why….

A couple of weeks back I started a small series on my Blog called "Elevation Tuesday", showing one of the beautiful Elevation Polishes once a week. With shock I realized that I don't wear them as full manis anymore but just show swatches - this HAD to be changed!!!!!

First up Elevation Polish Tette. Tette is a volcano on the Teneriffa, an island of the Canarys. The special thing here? I have been there!!! I was as far up on Tette as a vehicle would take me and I will never forget the breathtaking bleakness of this landscape. And while we certainly were more than 2000 meters above sea level the peak of Tette still remained far and high. As for the polish: Tette is a dark brown jelly - and here the description is super easy: liquid chocolate!!! I love dark browns against my ever so slightly tanned skin (truly minimal but still there - haha).

This shows Tette at two coats. Here you clearly can see the transparency of this polish and I find this opacity ideal to apply some glitter. However for plain wear I preferred it at three coats:

Tette is sheer but has a great formula and is very easy to apply. Already the first coat goes on relatively even and at two coats it already looks completely even. Dry time is normal. High shine is insane. But I always apply Top Coat for everyday wear. And I included below another picture showing what I would for example choose as "decoration". I have Enchanted Polish Hello New York on my ring finger and Enchanted Polish Ola Rio on my middle. The little you see of my pointer is Enchanted Polish Tummy Time.

And I felt like continuing with Elevation Polish and choose Urulu next. Urulu is the Aborigine name for Ayers Rock in Australia. Urulu is an orange leaning bright red filled with red and golden shimmer that is visible in any lighting.

I applied two coats of Urulu over Essence XXL Nail Thickener. I am repetitive here - the formula is perfection, application a breeze, dry time normal. I used Essence Better Than Gel Nails Fast Dry Top Coat.

After a week of anxiously waiting my order of the new KBShimmer polishes I found them in my mailbox early this week. After some nail polish playtime I went for Teal Another Tail.

I applied two coats of Teal Another Tail over Essence XXL Nail Thickener. I became spoiled of KBShimmer formulas for their perfection and this is no exception. I particularly liked that Teal Another Tail kept it's slightly satin sheen and it looked as if the surface was slightly textured - but note it LOOKED - for the touch the surface of the nail was entirely smooth. Here removal requires some elbow grease as the pink shimmers are a tad reluctant to leave the nail ;-)

Lastly a picture of Nell as I found him sleeping on my - errrr HIS pillow yesterdays grey overcast Saturday morning (just look at those paws - LOL):

I order my Elevation Polishes from their own e-shop here and KBShimmer from Harlow & Co.

I look forward to reading your comments, thanks for visiting and stay tuned for part 2!!!

Glitter Me: KBShimmer Squared Away over Lime Crime Pastelchio

I have one more "Glitter Me" mani for you - yup, I experienced an idea-overload when I lined up the glitters I wanted to show this week ;-)

I saved KBShimmer Squared Away for last - as with all the other glitters I have shown this week, Squared Away is so versatile and fun to work with. The options appear endless. I wanted to combine it with a really, really contrasting base color and picked Lime Crime Pastelchio.

I applied one coat of KBShimmer Squared Away over ONE coat of Lime Crime Pastelchio (I could hardly believe my eyes, but Pastelchio was totally opaque and even with one coat!!!)

Since I have not shown Lime Crime Pastelchio on its own yet....

I applied one coat of Lime Crime Pastelchio over Zoya Anchor Base Coat. The application was flawless - just perfect! If I would wear Lime Crime Pastelchio on its own though I would go for a second coat but only to disguise my ridges which still show clearly after one coat.

I ordered KBShimmer Squared Away and Lime Crime Pastelchio with Harlow & Co.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!
