My picks for Spring 2014: KBShimmer A Touch of Glass

And on we go with my picks for Spring 2014 - KBShimmer released a massive collection of 16 polishes in total - consider me awed!!! After I overcame the first gushing and awing I was really, really, REALLY good - I got myself "only" five creams - thus resulting in the most economical polish/shipping rate ratio (see I saved money by ordering more polish). The most spring like color to me is A Touch of Glass, in my humble view a soft turquoise rather than a blue leaning mint. In some reviews of this collection I read that A Touch of Glass could apply a bit streaky and patchy and might need three coats. Think ridged nails and you can multiply streaks and patches and add some pools to it as well. But I found a way to circumvent about 99 % of the above - how? Please see my paragraph about the application but first some photos:

I applied two coats of KBShimmer A Touch of Glass over Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat and one layer of Glisten&Glow HK Girl. There - this is my latest trick to cover those ridges. This might not be a totally unique technique but had the impact of a nailpolish-epiphany on me. The smooth, glossy surface of the nail after applying the Top Coat provides the perfect canvas to paint your nails easily and effortlessly. So while the formula of a Touch of Glass is a tad sheer, already the first coat went on smooth and even and the second coat provided even opacity and a high shine finish.

Are you ready for A (sparked up) Touch of Glass?

I dabbed on KBShimmer Pastel Me More. This is a very dense clear based glitter throwing sparks from square glitters in all pastel shades - well this might be a tad overload, especially in the sun, but then I did felt sparkly that day ;-)

Final thoughts: KBShimmer A Touch of Glass is absolutely adorable. I love the squishiness and the freshness of this light turquoise - a perfect shade to be worn on its own or as base for delicate or bold decor.

I order my KBShimmer polishes with Harlow & Co.

Thank you for visiting - oh and I look forward to reading your comments and thoughts!!!

  1. Hi Christine! My goodness, A Touch of Glass looks so gorgeous on you! I just love shades like that for the spring time. :) And good tip about adding top coat. I'm usually quite lazy and skip top coat haha, but I should for cremes... it does help even everything out. :)

    1. Hi Yun, - I am so happy you like it on me - isn't it amazing what a shade shifter this is depending on the skin tone???? I have to admit, I would skip Top Coat too, if I would not need any help in smoothing out ridges on my middle finger. The others are ok but that one is really bad and I absolutely avoid buffing nails. Also working as Admin involves a lot of paper shoving and endless typing - I found it kept a mani well afloat for more than a day or two with Top Coat. xxx

  2. I have ridges of some sort on all my nails but some are positively furrowed. I was recently bemoaning the fact that my efforts to camouflauge them had turned me into a serial three-coater! I'm going to try your trick the next time I've got a polish that is particularly unforgiving re uneven nail beds (metallics and mattes, hello) and will let you know how it works for me! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you Ina - this really would be right up your alley, I just love it that Indies start to do creams, especially with the biggies coming up with some real crappy formulas this spring!!! <3
