Models Own Hyper Gel Cornflower Gleam

Cornflower blue is one of my favorite blue shades EVER. Yesterday we looked at a cornflower blue holo - today it is a cream. But wait, of course not just any random regular cream, but Models Own promises Hyper Gel Effect with this baby. They released a whole range of Hyper Gel polishes and I could not resist getting Cornflower Gleam along with Coral Glaze (but that one I will show later).

Models Own Cornflower Gleam is a very, very bright cornflower blue cream that shows neon tendencies even in the shade. Bummer, there was no sun visible near or far when I swatched this, so I cannot judge - yet - on the "gleam" in the sunlight.

I applied three thin coats of Models Own Cornflower Gleam over Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat. The formula is tricky, very thin and runny (anyone reminded of Essie Lapis of Luxury?). I wiped off my brush carefully before painting each and every nail - the polish flood would not have been avoided else.  Right after painting I found the polish looked slightly streaky and patchy on my nails - looking down at my nails a couple of minutes later my jaw dropped gracelessly at discovering that the polish leveled itself out 100 % AND had a perfect gel finish look (just check-out my last photo - this is what it looked like perfectly captured). But there is another downside to Cornflower Gleam I need to share: it takes forever and ever to dry. I understood that the polish itself would not need an additional layer of Top Coat given the Hyper Gel finish. It took more than 15 minutes to get dry to the touch and after one hour I could still easily leave finger prints on the surface of my nail (which oddly disappeared again). I wouldn't know how dent-resistent Cornflower Gleam is, I did not try.

Final thoughts: Models Own Hyper Gel Cornflower Gleam is for my taste an "on the fence" polish. On one hand I like the color, the self leveling and the gel like finish. The downside is the tricky formula and an even steeper dump the long dry time.  I am afraid, Cornflower Gleam will not get much nail time due to its dry time - a pity because the color is so outstanding.

I ordered Models Own Hyper Gel Cornflower Gleam with Harlow & Co.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for dropping by :-)
Christine

  2. What a diva of a polish, lol. But SO PRETTY!! Sometimes it's hard to decide if these high maintenance little numbers are even worth wearing again-- they might just be kinda fun to have in your collection. Btw I've experienced that same disappearing fingerprint thing with a couple of my new Zoyas... I can't explain it but I'm thankful for it, lol ;)

    1. You are right sis - she IS a Diva in her own mind. I certainly agree, the dry time will prolong the time to get it back on my nails but I THINK I ordered a similar shade from another brand that hasn't yet arrived and I cannot remember what it was (eyeroll). Amazing about the Zoya - should we finally see light at the end of the tunnel of bedsheet marks????? *hugs*

  3. Hi Christine, Oh la la! sooooo pretty, perfect cornflower, but what a hassle. Liesl is so right, "diva" is the right word, haha. I love cornflower blue, the little red nuance of this shade makes it more compatible with my skin tone, I wonder how it would compare to Catrice it's all I can blue, I guess Cornflower gleam is a tad lighter and brighter.
I didn't know Harlow & co. sells Model's own! I might need to take a look, there's a couple of Model's own in my wishlist!
Hope you're fine, sweetie, je t'embrase xxx

    1. Salut ma belle - thank you so much for your lovely comment. I think Cornflower Gleam has less white than Catrice It's All I Can Blue and worn over white might even have a neon tendency, it is that vibrant. Harlow&Co have quite a range of Models Own - and restock them at regular intervals. I hope you are fine too ma biche xxx
