Contrary Polish The Boulevard

The second bottle Carrie sent me was the absolutely stunning The Boulevard - a Prussian blue jelly filled with copper shimmer. Ever since I saw the first pictures of the new Contrary Polish Collection, I tried to source what exactly that memory is that it trickled. That memory was lurking at the very bottom of my memories and itching and inkling my consciousness relentlessly until just a minute ago where I experienced one of those epiphanies - ROMEO GIGLI!!! Anyone remember that incredible fashion designer that grew to fame in the late 80ies and early 90ies for his incredibly delicate and lush creations of velvet and lace. He loved deep and saturated colors that were never quite straight forward, they were always a tiny winy bit off the regular blue, red, green or what have you. I am quite sure, he would have booked The Boulevard as exclusive Romeo Gigli shade ;-)

The picture above is taken indoors in daylight, the below photos outside in overcast weather

and in artificial light

I applied three coats of The Boulevard over Essence Hardening Nail Base. The first coat went on sheer and a tad patchy but was reasonably opaque after two coats and maximally shimmery after the third coat. The Boulevard dries to a soft shine so if you want those shimmers pop to life, you reach for a glossy Top Coat.

I have to admit that I originally considered deleting all the pictures I took - that murky and dark autumn weather was ruining my plans for some spectacular shimmer pictures. But then I saw the photos on my screen and found they really look like my nails, so what you see above is what The Boulevard looked IRL on a not so thrilling day in October!

Final thoughts: mmmmmh I love that nearly charcoal black blue and the shimmer that - as you can see above - might not be seen particle per particle but gives the overall mani a wonderful cast.

I have a third polish from Contrary Polish but with this one, I had to cancel my plans for a post this week. Not a single photo was remotely close to what it looked on the nails, so I do have to be patient and wait for another ray of sun…..

Carrie, again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful gift. Those three gems will always hold a special place in my collection as you do in my heart!!!!

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!
Christine

  1. Hey, I just noticed...are you left-handed? It looks like you take photos of your right hand!? I guess it doesn't matter - I just never noticed until now. I love deep dark polishes like this. It's mysterious!

    1. Hi Essie - yes - I am a leftie ;-)!!!! While I was allowed to write with my left hand at school, back then hardly any tools were available for left handers and just last week I even discovered a purse for lefties!!! You are spot on about the mysteriousness - what a perfect word to describe it!!! <3

  2. I like this color with the shimmer. It sort of has a look about it that's like a really dark lucite with shimmer inside. Does that make sense, LOL? And I remember Romeo Gigli because for a period of time, his perfume was the most expensive in the world. :)

  5. This reminds me of RBL Piu Mosso, which I adoooore ♥♥ You captured the shimmer beautifully! I'm so glad you kept your photos, they truly look amazing and it would have been a bummer for us to miss out on this beauty. And another song pops into my head with this one, this time by Jackson Browne :)

    2. As soon as I saw the photos, I immediately thought of RBL's Piu Mosso too!!! :P Great minds do think alike, I guess! :) Piu Mosso is one that I've had my eye on, so it's nice to know there might be a very comparable polish out there. :D And how incredibly sweet of the maker to send you these out of the kindness of her heart! Our polish community truly is the best. :) I can't believe it took two months to get to you though - WOW. :O
Oh well, totally worth the wait!
P.S. please do compare them - I'd love to see them side by side on your lovely nails!
