Cadillacquer Limited Edition Duo: Don't Be Scared and Fireflies

Last week I took you on a stroll through newly released creams and finds from the vaults of my collection. I am super exited for this week's posts as I plan to expand the talk about trends. Let's not only look trends in colors or finishes or effects but at broader range. Confused? OK let's get down to business:

Of course the biggest trend I find is the Indie polish industry per se. New brands pop up on a nearly weekly basis and any serious nail polish collector might feel overloaded at times trying to keep up with all the new stuff. Now within the Indie Brand world I find the trend to release Limited Edition single or duo polishes on the rise as of late. I would guess it started out back in the mainstream brands with Limited Editions for Disease Awareness, Holidays, Valtentine's Day, etc. The Indie Brands have adapted the trend to their smaller range of customers and speedier rotation of shades. Reasons are out there aplenty: the opening of a new webshop - as the Limited Edition Duo I show you today.

Cadillacquer (YAY a Swiss nailpolish Indie brand) moved to Big Cartel a few weeks back and released for the opening a set of two Limited Edition polishes (though you can get them individually as well). First up Don't Be Scared, a nearly whitened lilac filled with very, very, very small pink shimmer and filled with baby pink hex glitter and blue hex and square glitter and shards. Sadly I only have one picture - in all others my skin resembles a roasted chicken's skin - aaaargh!!!

I applied two coats of Don't Be Scared on its own on my ring finger. On all others I layered one coat of it over Zoya Marley - I found Marley mirrors the base color of Don't Be Scared perfectly. In case you would like to see it worn on its own please click here. The formula of Don't Be Scared is very sheer and due to the amount of glitter packed in it the three needed coats for opacity end up THICK on the nail. The glitter has a tendency to stay in groups on the nail and dabbing is needed to cover the empty spots. Given the sheer (and without the glitter thin) polish base it tends to pool. Now sitting there being annoyed about the pools of glitter on one end of the nail and pools of polish on the other end I didn't realize that Don't Be Scared actually is incredibly selfleveling - the next thing I remember is that I looked down on to my nails and realized that all those pools were gone for good - how cool is THIS?

The second polish of the set is Fireflies - a black jelly base filled with purple and gold shimmer-glimmer interspersed with the one or the other blue micro-glitter.

I applied two coats of Fireflies over Essence XXL Nail Thickener and smoothed the only slightly bumpy surface with Dior Gel Coat. The consistency of Fire Flies is thickish given the amount of shimmer-glimmer but easy to apply and dries quickly.

Final thoughts: Don't Be Scared is not in my preferred range of colors but a nice and delicate change to my otherwise mostly either bold or dark nails. I am particularly taken by its selfleveling qualities - just awesome. Fireflies is a polish exactly down my lane - dark and sparkly. The two of them make a beautifully contrasting yet complimenting set and I am glad I went for the set.

Side note to my Dior Gel Coat. By now my bottle is half empty and, oh my, that baby pulls "spider webs" by now. The most disappointing fact about it though is that while it still dries quickly to the touch it takes FOREVER to dry the whole many completely. I wore Fireflies for a full day and much to my nuisance I had major dents in two of my nails after more than three hours of wear. I cannot remember when this happened to me last and mind you, I was just strolling about the town and did some shopping here and there - no real challenge for ANY nailpolish.

The Cadillacquer Limited Edition Duo Don't Be Scared and Fireflies is only available in her Bigcartel e-shop - link here.

What do you think of Limited Edition releases?

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!

  1. I like both of these. I'm not used to seeing the pastel shades on you, but Don't Be Scared is very lovely and gentle-looking. And I literally LOL'd at the roasted chicken skin line!! I really love how Fireflies looks like a fantastical night sky...almost like a Disney-ish night sky! And I totally hear you about all the indies right now! It's rather overwhelming, and you sort of wonder when everything will inevitably start looking alike.

    1. Hi Melissa, hihi, you didn't had to scroll back up to make sure it was really me, no? I think I showed the last pastel in, wait........., errrr......... must have been back in spring. And thank you - I fell weird with pastel nails - and then I mostly wear bold colors so pastels feel weird (and you certainly wouldn't approve, no?). Of course Disney-ish night sky - you had the perfect association with it!!! Thank you <3 - As for the Indies I agree, I think it will be a fun challenge to become picky and selective - I so look forward to how we will implement the masses :-)

  2. My thoughts went directly to Melissa with your roasted chicken line, too, she with her food analogies ;p I like the concept a lot and the darker glitters are a nice, and different, juxtaposition. Such a lovely and appropriate way to commemorate the next stage. Of course Firefly is stunning and my favorite of the two <3 I was thinking just this past week that indie companies are about as prolific as the blogs, themselves, lol, and it's crazy how much the industry has expanded just since we've been doing our thing.

    1. Hi Liesl - thank you sis xxx!!! Of course Fireflies is my favorite too - no big surprise here. Here in Switzerland we normally call a sunbaked person a roasted chicken - and my skin tone was just reminiscent of it - hahaha Melissa really is the queen of food analogies, I agree!!! I also agree about the Indies - and us!! The options are as vast as they can get by being as global as it can get through internet. I am curious to see what will come up next!!!!!!

  3. Hahaha I would surely like to see the pictures that look like a roasted chicken's skin! :P Don't Be Scared is sooo gorgeous, I have to say! The lilac base is just stunning for showing off the glitters in there. :)

    1. Hi Yun - you will recognize the roasted chicken IMMEDIATELY - we use that term for someone overly sunbaked AND (sorry to Liesl, I forgot when replying to you) addicted to tanning beds. Oh and I am so pleased you like the pastel shade on me - I wear bold colors in summer mostly (cloth wise) so I find pastels turn out to look weird and when I grab for them again and use them, it is as if it is not my hand - know what I mean? ;-) - Thank you my dear Yun xxx

  6. Don't be scared isn't really my cup of tea, but I really do love Firefly. And in the Indie-world, most polishes are kind of limited edition, as a lot of brands discontinue their collections after a couple of months. A major part of my indie polish collection is no longer available...
