Picture Polish Believe

The other new shade from Picture Polish named Believe is a dark, mysterious and somehow brooding color. I saw only bottle shots and had no idea what to expect. It is a dark oxblood red sheer base loaded with teal/turquoise shimmer. There is so much shimmer, that I would not call this a duochrome. But you see the red around the edges of the nail and it gives the overall look that never-black-looking brooding base color.

The above two pictures are taken indoors in daylight, the photo below outdoors in the rain :-(

in artificial light:

I applied three coats of Picture Polish Believe over Essence Hardening Nail Base. Now the color is drop dead gorgeous and this is about the most stellar thing to say about Believe. The formula was a challenge to work with - mind you, it was not runny but very, very sheer and it went on patchy and streaky. In the first coat and then in the second and so on. I actually did the mani three times to work out how to get an even opacity: After applying the second coat I dabbed my tips long enough, that the polish started to flow back on the nail which covered the balding spots around the tips of the nails. Going twice over the same area doesn't help either by the way - it just adds streaks and bald patches. Dry time is also not excitingly fast.

I add a water bowl picture below to show you that there is nothing real duochromy about Believe:

Final thoughts: I do love that brooding deep color a lot and I plan to wear it soon as a full mani. Considering the formula, I would call Believe a polish for "advanced" painters. Should you not paint your nails regularly, you might get frustrated by the unevenness during application. If you want to be done with slap-slap painting this might not be ideal either as you need to invest some decent time to achieve a nice and even finish - and to let it dry ;-)!!!

I ordered Picture Polish Believe with Pshiiit Boutique.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!

  1. What an interesting shade! I have some polishes that are tricky to apply and it seems like I steer clear of them. Once in a while I'll be in the mood to mess with them and then I am glad I did. This may be one of those polishes that is worth the work!

  3. What an interesting color! But as the formula is such a PITA, I probably won't buy it. Pity.

  4. I really liked this! First I thought it was a duochrome just by looking at the pictures but then you clarified everything! I love duochome's but this isn't too bad either, shimmer polishes with another shimmer color than the base. Sad that the application was a bit hard to manage but I believe it's worth it since the result looks great on you! :D I'd love to have this polish some day. :P

    1. Thank you dear Gelic!!! This is like an office compliant version of duochrome!! I plan to use this again over the weekend - in case I just had an anti-nail-paint attack I will of course put this post straight! Or maybe it is my bottle? However it is totally worth it!!! <3

  5. Bright glowy shimmers like that against a dark base always gets to me! Love it! :) How annoying about the bad formula though.

    1. Thank you Yun!!! My hope about the formula lies in either having the bottle opened for some days - I found this can help at times - or me just having had a clumsy moment (as suggested above) xxx
