Nubbins week: Dote Lagoinha

Did you nearly stumble over the name of todays polish? I certainly had to type letter by letter carefully to get it right. And the name states already clearly, this is an exotic beauty from Brazil. My wonderful friend Priscilla has sent me this "trouvaille" in one of her epic nailmails. "Trouvaille" is French and we use the term in Switzerland to describe a "precious little find".

Dote Lagoinha is an epitome for a vampy polish - daaaaark but never looking black, loaded with mysterious shimmer that pops up here and there while you move your hands. But what am I talking away here - just look at the photos:

the above two pictures are taken indoors in daylight, the below photos outside in the sun

I applied two coats of Lagoinha over Zoya Anchor Base Coat and finished the mani with Vefic Top Coat (another gem from Brazil!!!). The first coat provides nearly even opacity but beware of going over the same area twice - bad idea, big patches!!! As usual with such polishes, I go for a medium thick second coat. Dry time is really fast and it has quite a nice shine on its own. But I thought since I own a Brazil Top Coat it deserves to be slapped over a Brazil nailpolish ;-)!!! But with this polish it is not only the formula I find so nice to use - it is also the brush. The bottle is pretty small (as you probably guessed from the photos). But the brush is long and soft and spreads fan-like on the nail. The only downside - the smell - it is overwhelmingly chemical and I had to paint my nails by the open window and still felt slightly nauseous afterwards - ugh :-(

Final thoughts: Vampy shades go always in my nailpolish-world! No matter if I wear nubs or longer nails. I find the vampy shades on nubbins sort of intellectual - you know what I mean? And Lagoinha is just the perfect example for it. I know, I cannot give any purchase info here with Lagoinha being an exotic gem. But there are so many gorgeous vampy shades to choose from out there -they just wait for you picking one to adorn your pretty nails :-)

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!
Christine

  3. Love the shimmers in there... it's very glowy! :) But bummer on the smell... I hate when polishes have that overly chemical smell.

    1. Hi Yun - thank you :-), me too, the smell was overpowering, and unfortunately it will probably keep me from using it any time soon again - oh well, as if I wouldn't have some others in my stash - LOL!!!

I think dark vampy polishes looks better on short nails than on long actually. So edgy!

  6. Wow, it looks amazing! It also almost looked slightly duochrome on the bottle of some of the pictures. I also liked the term "trouvaille" :D I understand a tiny bit french, but the grammar has always tangled it self and of cause the fact that it rarely(read never) shown in the amount as english language is spoken in sweden. I mean english is so common that we have commercial on tv all in english as if it was our maternal language. But nuff' rambling.. :)

    1. Salut Gelic, how awesome, you speak a little bit of French? We learn French in school due to our French speaking part of Switzerland - unfortunately it is the same here - at least I hardly ever use it and I lost so much of it.... I am impressed at the level of English all of you have in Sweden and you gave me the explanation. I think it is very important to have English knowledge, especially when you live in a country like yours or mine where no-one outside the country (or few only) understand your mother tongue - see - you got me on a roll with this too ;-) - thank you for your lovely comment :-) and yes, in the bottle there is a duochrome shimmer but it doesn't translate to the nail :-S

  7. Hey Christine! This is beautiful! :) But is it brown? Or burgundy? Or purple-ish? It looks brownish-purple to me...how far off am I? :D

    1. Hi dear Melissa - thank you!!! It is a brownburgundypurple- haha, you are so spot on with detecting all those subtle details. I tend to be at a TOTAL loss for words when it comes to identify a color - I always start worrying about how it might appear in someone elses eye. You have to know that my Mark was partly color blind and we never got tired to compare what a color looked to him and what it looked to me - which led me to my question: who defines what a color REALLY is? Maybe his sight is as right as mine - he was just in a minority of seeing a particular shade - oh my, here I babble away about something pretty unidentifiable, no? ;-P
