Wicked Polish Black Lung over Essence Black to the Roots

This week I will show you some new to my stash brands along with some new polishes of Essence and Catrice.

Just last Saturday I found a new Essence Collection displayed at my local Coop called Floral Grunge. While I always give the make-up items a pass (but they do look lovely) I usually pick up  the one or the other nailpolish. I choose two polishes from the Floral Grunge Collection. First up Essence Black to the Roots. A deep charcoal polish with silver glitter that looks most interesting in the bottle. But that's about it color and finish wise.

The application was really great and the consistency is excellent and the brush is very good. I only realized after I came home that the caps are labelled - this one being "the Rough" but I wonder what it means because it really has absolutely nothing to do with any of the textured finishes we've been talking over the last couple of weeks but simply dries to a bumpy finish. AND a lot of the glitter sinks into the polish so there is not much sparkle to see. I added Butter London Hardwear on my middle finger:

Harlow & Co recently launched Wicked Polish in their shop and while at the moment all the buzz is about neon glitters I went for Black Lung (what a HIDEOUS name), a black jelly filled with tiny rainbow glimmer particles and some bigger black hex glitters. Black Lung (ugh I cannot get over this name) would probably require a couple of coats of reach a decent opacity but then I like my blacks to be deep opaque if you know what I mean.

Indoors in daylight the sparkle keeps pretty much hidden but there is a shimmer in Black Lung that gives the polish a blue tinge - very edgy I find.

In artificial light the sparkles really light up and twinkle beautifully.

The consistency is thin but not runny and distributes nice and evenly on the nail. I applied two coats over Essence Black to the Roots. I used Essence XXL Nail Thickener as Base Coat and Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer as Top Coat.

Final thoughts: I really love Wicked Polish Black Lung and find it an edgy cool change to all the pastels we have seen in the Spring Collections.

I ordered Wicked Polish Black Lung with Harlow & Co and I bought Essence Black to the Roots with the local Coop.

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for reading!!!
Christine

  1. Black Lung is gorgeous, but yeah, that deserves to be on the list of all-time worst polish names. D: I hear you on wanting your blacks to be nice and opaque. The best black creme I've found, opacity-wise, is Essence Back to Black (Black is Bacl? I can never remember). It chips super fast on me, though. Interesting about "The Rough"... it's like textured lite, lol :) Have a great week, sis ♥

    1. Hi sis - thank you so much - I know what polish you are referring to, thanks for the alert!!! Normally I go for A England Camelot (this is "my" Union Jack) but want to save it for manis without layering. I also own the Ozotic Mr Big Black - 30 ml of black polish - I don't think I can justify another bottle - LOL!!! And I agree this name belongs on worst polish names ever list!!! Have a great day xxx

  2. Hi pet! What a shame the silver glitter sort of drowned in the black polish on the nails... It looked better in the bottle as you said ;) This is not unusual unfortunately... :/

    1. Hi meine Süsse, thank you so much!! I know, hoping for a perfect black glitter from Essence is steep ;-)!! I think one is better off wear a cream black and slap glitter on top!!! As for the name - eeeeek - oh well it is beautiful, I will try it over grey next time - maybe this brings out the black hex glitter??? Have a wonderful day love xxx

  3. I like black for spring!!! An wicked polish black lung looks great, I wonder why they named it like that??
I saw the new Essence too! but still on NBB :( so I kept going my way to the grocers (which is about all I allow myself to buy). Now seeing your swatch of Black to the roots, I wouldn't be picking this one, you're right it looks better on the bottle. Just one more week to go.

  4. Black Lung?! Oh gosh, that a horrible name... really you wonder what people are thinking sometimes when they come up with bad polish names. But it's a real beauty for sure! I love how it looks under artificial light! :-)
