Vintage Challenge - Red: China Glaze Hey Sailor

Day 2 of our Vintage Challenge - today it is all about red nailpolish. You want to join us? Just add the links to your posts in the gadget below. For more information on the Vintage Challenge click here.

Now this was quite a different matter with regard to choosing which polish to show. I choose China Glaze Hey Sailor since this is not only Vintage by our terms - it was released in the China Glaze Anchors Away Collection for Spring 2011.  This was my go-to red for quite some time as it represents the epitome of classic, happy bright red and is a "slap and go" polish.

The above two pictures are taken indoors in daylight, the photo below outdoors in the shade

I applied two coats of China Glaze Hey Sailor over Zoya Anchor Base Coat. Formula and application are a breeze and I used to carry Hey Sailor along to every weekend Mark and I were away - it is fit for every occasion, throughout the year and applied within the shortest possible time - including a very quick dry time.

What is your go-to red (if you are a red nailpolish lover)?

I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!
Christine

  1. Lovely!Bright, happy, summer-y, this is a gorgeous red Christine. I'm not realy a red fanatic, and my nails are rarely in red, despite it being my hubby favourite colour. That being said, In 2008 my nails were red almost every other week, I almost used up a bottle of Dior "Poppy" (much more muted red than Hey sailor). So I'd say that was my go-to red.
Bisous, xxx I <3 this challenge!

  2. Lovely shade! It's in my WL from the very beginning. My fav shade of red it's a Layla, #119. I'm very pale, so I need darker tones. ;)

    1. Hi Francine, thank you <3!!! While it really is a beautiful shade it is not the most unique admittedly and nearly every brand has a red gem like Hey Sailor - though the thing that sets this apart is that it clearly is a very blue toned bright red vs most others have a tendency to lean to orange!!! And h wow, there is nothing like a dark red on alabaster skin - simple perfection!!!

  3. I'm adding this to my "going to buy-list", if it's still available(think it is). I'm not a red-lover, and I own few red but for some time I've been more and more interested in red polishes and I've been looking for something like Hey Sailor. :D

    1. Hi Gelic - whoa I am beaming!!! What a compliment that Hey Sailor made it to your WL!!! I think it is a perfect staple and the price is not breaking the bank either so for anyone not overly into red a good buy!! I can understand anyone who looks into red nailpolish - I love red nails :-)! Oh and it is still available b.t.w, ;-)

  4. I really don't wear many reds. I did, however, just wear Butter London Pillar Box Red and it was really pretty:) This looks beautiful on you. And great pics!

    1. Hi Essie - I remember the beautiful pictures you posted of Pillar Box - it suits you so wonderfully. Hands down - a red cream is not the most unique shade out there and having found a shade that you really love you sort of feel settled - isn't it??? <3

  5. Hi pet! It's gorgeous!! I can so understand the versatile use for it! You can never go wrong with this type of red! Wonderful! I like red but I don't wear it a lot. I guess my slap-and-go red would be either the polish I'm showing today, because it's a one-coater, or OPI Red Light ahead where? because I love that bright red :) and the name ;) lol! Viele Küsschen!!! xxx

    1. Hi sweetie, I am so happy you like it - I felt like it is not really really unique but because it has been with me for so long and been on my nails so often I felt like meeting again an old pal ;-)!!! The red you showed us is just to die for - I cannot remember EVER having seen pictures of it!!! - Puss, puss and cuddles to Smilla

  6. Red is such a powerful color... it always lifts me up when I'm feeling down or unsure. This color looks fantastic on you! My go-to red is Zoya Carrie Ann... the subtle warmth in that one looks nice against my skintone. :)

  7. :) A lovely memory attached to a great color :) What can I say? I love reds and this one is no exception. Cute name on this one, too. My go-to red is Butter London Come To Bed Red, though I've been gravitating toward Julep Molly lately.
