RBL is a smaller nail polish company based in New York. They release about two collections a year, each and every of them carefully composed and created by the magician behind RBL - Ji!!! For today I have selected one of their older releases: Anne from the Henry IIIV wives Collection. Anne is a brown-grey-with-a-green-tinge polish filled with copper and some red shimmer.
isn't it amazing how the shimmer can turn Anne into a metallic shade in certain light?:
and in artificial light:
and in the sun - you see those tiny red sparks? Amazing, no?
and here some outdoor pictures that show off the green tinge
I applied two coats of RBL Anne over Essence Hardening Nail Base. The formula of Anne is amazing - it applies smooth and even. I started with a relatively thin coat and added a medium thick coat. The brush of RBL is amazing - those swatches are WITHOUT clean-up!!! Drytime was also rather fast.
Final thoughts: RBL is a really special brand and fills in my opinion the niche of classic with a soft edge perfectly. Each and every polish of RBL is wearable at the office, at any age, for any occasion. Frankly, some have a bit a tricky formula but hey, we put up with runny, gooey, bumpy any day for a polish we love. Their probably most famous polish is Aqua Lily and then there is Scrangie (that purple duo-chrome) which was eons ahead of the duo chrome trend we see left and right. And we should not forget Scrangie 2.0!!!
Scrangie:
Anne is sold out and currently resides in the R.I.P. section of RBL's website. I have not heard if it will be re-issued but I saw that the other polishes of this collection, namely Catherine, Catherine H and Jane are still available. RBL nailpolish solely can be bought from their own website here and ships worldwide. Of course you might find the one or the other bottle also on ebay (or so I was told).
Have you placed any pre-orders for the new Fan Collection?
I look forward to reading your comments - thanks for visiting!!!
Christine
Both polishes looks great! I mean, wow! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you hon <3!
DeleteOh my, Anne really is a stunning color! And it has so much dimension.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :-)!!! It does, doesn't it? And as opposed to other creations by RBL that dimension is visible in any light!!!
DeleteThis year's fan collection looks to be one that'll steadily grow on me, as Cuprum did. Fire Queen immediately jumped out at me but the energy surrounding the whole collection, and each of Ji's creations, imo, is without peer. I almost with C had another paper for me to type so I could bribe him with another preorder, lol. Anne is lovely on you and is as rich, deep, and nuanced as one would expect from this brand.
ReplyDeleteHi sis - thank you so much!!! I totally see your point, I agree, Ji has done a nice job of translating the Fans votes into a collection - after all it was US selecting the colors!!! To me Cuprum remains an outstanding polish at the firmament of nailpolish - to date I cannot think of anything even remotely close :-) - did you order the whole collection? I am sure it will look awesome on you xxx
DeleteRBL remains one of those brands with polishes I admire from afar, but have not yet taken the plunge and gotten for myself. The new collection is pretty, with the green one standing out the most to me. But there is no "Aqua Lily" (one that makes you stop and stand still in your track) in this collection, so that is a little disappointing.
ReplyDelete~ Yun
Hi Yun - the green is very special indeed but I already have a probably slightly similar one from La CC and it looks tolerable against my skin at best of times :-S - I agree that previous Fan Collection was stellar!!! And I quit buying RBL because of the price tag - the polishes must be something extraordinaire for me to spend that money on polish AND shipping AND VAT - have a great start of the week <3
DeleteThis polish is complex and strange...both major selling points for me. :) It is rather bothersome that all six of Henry's wives weren't represented in polish form though. I have always been rather obsessed with Henry VIII and my favorite wife didn't get a polish, LOL!! I don't have anything by RBL, and the price tags tell me I won't anytime soon. :/
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa - haha that was my first thought too - what about the other wives??? I also once was quite into Henry VIII and watched any documentary and read a ton of books about that particular time.. The price tag these days is also the reason I am thinking twice or thrice about ordering from RBL - for me there will be shipping and VAT too and I rather go for the little Indies these days ;-) xxx
DeleteI love that pink shimmer that Anne has! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you dear Ina xxx
DeleteWhat a great and chic shade. Looks pretty elegant on you. I do not own any polish from this brand and honestly I don't know why! May be I should makeup for this lack in my collection... why is it always so dangerous to read your posts!!! hahaha
ReplyDeleteWish you a wonderful afternoon sweetie. Great start to your week tomorrow. bisous, xx
Salut Nati - merci mille fois and haha I know why - you have so many other beauties!!!! RBL stands for those slightly unobtrusive shades that make each single one of them an elegant and work appropriate shade - well maybe Cuprum being the exception ;-)!! Bisous ma biche and have a wonderful start of the week xxx
